A supply chain is the system of organisations, people, technology, activities, information and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer. Supply chains exist in both service and manufacturing organisations, although the complexity of the chain may vary greatly from industry to industry and firm to firm. In the new millennium, the structure of supply chain is undergoing rapid transformation due to market pressures which demands higher quality and lower prices. This has lead to the emergence of new paradigms in the area of SCM such as collaborative relationships, logistics, outsourcing, information sharing, lean and agile manufacturing, reverse and green supply chain management.

With increased globalisation and offshore sourcing, global supply chain management is becoming an important issue for many businesses. The main aim of this special issue is to address the modelling aspect of supply chain management and to help the managers in decision making. High quality contributions are therefore welcomed from both academics and professionals working in the field of logistics and supply chain management.
