Special Issue on: “Agile Organisations and Supply Chains: Performance and Strategy”

Agility is an increasingly important requirement for organisations to stay ahead of competition and survive in the modern competitive market place. Agility has been defined in the literature as the ability of organisations to thrive and prosper in a competitive environment and to respond quickly to rapidly changing markets and customer needs. Agile performance often goes beyond individual organisations as the agility of individual organisations is affected but can be complimented by supply chain partners such as suppliers and customers.

This special issue aims to focus on the performance and strategy aspects of agile organisations and supply chains. Several components of agility of organisations and supply chains have been identified, and efforts have been made to measure the overall agile performance. Performance can be measured qualitatively and/or quantitatively. Approaches involving various kinds of flexibilities can be employed for measuring performance, as also can quantitative methodologies such as optimisation, simulation, multiple criteria decision making, fuzzy set theory or game theory. More often, measuring the performance of an agile organisation or supply chain helps in increased clarity at the conceptual level leading to newer and innovative strategies for improving agility. It is envisaged that the special issue will feature papers on the performance and/or the strategic aspects of agile organisations and supply chains. The papers on all kinds of study - e.g. case study, empirical work and modelling - are welcome.

The special issue will cover a range of issues and topics, including but not limited to:

• Methodological innovations in measuring the performance of agility, responsiveness and competitiveness
• Impact of supply chain coordination on agility
• Components of agility
• Impacts of technology, organisational restructuring and market needs on agility
• Operational and strategic aspects of improving agility

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere
