Special Issue on: “Perspectives in Health and Environmental Decision-Making”

Guest Editor: Dr. Paolo F Ricci, University of San Francisco, USA

Papers will deal with practical methods, rather than with theoretical advances, for making decision under risk or uncertainty. The rational for a practical, but rigorous, approach is that the large majority of risk managers and practitioners have generally not been exposed to formal methods of decision analysis because those methods are not part generally of the physical sciences (e.g., engineering, chemistry, toxicology, etc.) curricula.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include:
  • Decision sciences, environmental and health risk assessment
  • Rational single decision-making through formally optimal choices
  • Multiparty decision-making: game-theoretic methods, examples and issues
  • Risk assessment: towards a unifying methodology probabilistic and non-probabilistic measures
  • Value of information: criteria, methods and applications
  • Bayesian methods in decision-making
  • Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods: practical aspects and applications
  • Influence diagrams and Bayesian belief networks
  • Uncertainty analysis: probabilities or other measures in analysing decisions
  • Causation in risky and uncertain decisions: alternative approaches, issues
  • Complexity in ecological systems: measures, models and applications
  • Multiple stakeholders interactions: models of complex environmental cases
  • Organisational psychology of distributed choices
  • Dominance: deterministic and probabilistic aspects
  • Cluster of adverse outcomes: spatial and temporal analysis
  • Intergenerational decision-making under risk or uncertainty: the very long run
  • Risk management: pulling all elements together
  • Risk-cost-benefit analysis: applications and methodological issues
