Special Issue on: "Emerging Technologies and Methodologies for Power Systems Reliability and Security Assessment"

Electrical grids are, in general, amongst the most reliable systems worldwide. These large interconnected systems, however, are subject to a host of challenges – aging infrastructure, need for siting new generation near load centers, transmission expansion to meet growing demand, distributed resources, dynamic reactive compensation, congestion management, grid ownership vs. system operation and reliability coordination etc. Some of the major challenges facing the electrical industry today include balancing between resource adequacy, reliability, economics, environmental and other public purpose objectives to optimise transmission and distribution resources to meet the growing demand. We encourage all researchers working in this area to submit papers to this Special Issue.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Power systems reliability and security

• Probabilistic and non probabilistic methods for power systems analysis in the presence of data uncertainty
• Methodologies for vulnerability and reliability assessment
• Computing paradigms and new technologies for fast contingency analysis

Wide area protection and control

• Advances in system integrity protection schemes
• Thermal protection and dynamical loading of power equipments
• System restoration and smart restoration tools
• Application of PMU in advance warning systems of impending trouble or during system restoration
• Scheme design and automated testing

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere
