International Journal of Water
Special Issue on: "Water Quality Monitoring"
Editor:
Dr. Roy A. Armstrong, University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, Puerto Rico
Freshwater resources and aquatic ecosystems are threatened on a worldwide scale by a variety of pollutants as well as destructive land-use practices. There is an urgent need for comprehensive and accurate assessments of trends in water quality due to anthropogenic impacts and climate change. These assessments require reliable monitoring data from in situ instrumentation, remote sensing and observing systems.
This special issue will draw from ongoing advancements and novel developments of methodologies to map and monitor key indicators of water quality including, for example, bio-optical signatures, use of emerging technologies, profiling sensor systems, modelling, rapid assessments and surface and underwater vehicles.
Subject CoverageSuitable topics include but are not limited to:
- Lakes, rivers and streams
- Estuaries and coastal waters
- Impacts of land-use/land-change
- Effects of episodic climatic events
- Emerging water quality problems
- Use of remote sensing and in situ optical measurements
- Microbiological indicators
- Impact on threatened and endangered species
- Use of autonomous surface and underwater vehicles
- Strategies for water quality monitoring
