Special Issue on: "Water Quality Monitoring"

Freshwater resources and aquatic ecosystems are threatened on a worldwide scale by a variety of pollutants as well as destructive land-use practices. There is an urgent need for comprehensive and accurate assessments of trends in water quality due to anthropogenic impacts and climate change. These assessments require reliable monitoring data from in situ instrumentation, remote sensing and observing systems.

This special issue will draw from ongoing advancements and novel developments of methodologies to map and monitor key indicators of water quality including, for example, bio-optical signatures, use of emerging technologies, profiling sensor systems, modelling, rapid assessments and surface and underwater vehicles.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

• Lakes, rivers and streams
• Estuaries and coastal waters
• Impacts of land-use/land-change
• Effects of episodic climatic events
• Emerging water quality problems
• Use of remote sensing and in situ optical measurements
• Microbiological indicators
• Impact on threatened and endangered species
• Use of autonomous surface and underwater vehicles
• Strategies for water quality monitoring

Notes for Prospective Authors

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper was not originally copyrighted and if it has been completely re-written).
