Special issue on: "Maritime Applications of AI and Knowledge Engineering"

This special issue will present assorted applications of knowledge engineering for ship design and ship operation, with special focus on industrial applications.
The issue aims at giving a contemporary picture of the advanced applications in the field as a starting point for readers new to the topic. The target readership is engineers and IT specialists with an interest in maritime applications.
The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the 2012 and 2013 International Conferences of Computer and IT Applications in the Maritime Industries (www.compit.info), but we also strongly encourage researchers unable to participate in the conference to submit articles for this call.
Subject CoverageSuitable topics include but are not limited to:
- Knowledge-based systems/Expert systems for maritime applications
- Machine-learning approaches for maritime applications
- Advanced simulation techniques in maritime applications
- Evolutionary optimisation strategies for maritime problems
- Artificial intelligence for maritime applications

Notes for Prospective Authors
Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).
All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
