Special issue on: "Enabling Technologies for Cloud and Network Sustainability"

Ever-growing cloud computing is emerging rapidly as an exciting new paradigm for providing ubiquitous services, and plays an increasingly critical role in all aspects of our lives. With dramatically increasing demand on computing and storage systems, IT infrastructures have been scaled tremendously, which results in huge amounts of energy consumption, heat dissemination, greenhouse emissions and even a contribution to climate change.

As such, green computing has come into the picture seeking solutions for making computing and IT infrastructures energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Although cloud computing presents exciting enabling opportunities, the benefits will only be reaped if security aspects can be appropriately addressed. As a result, to realise the advantages of ubiquitous services in cloud environments requires the addressing of the security issues of its architectures, services and applications. Therefore, the security of cloud and network computing has become an important challenge for commerce, the public sector, academia and for individuals.

This special issue aims to foster the dissemination of high quality research in any new ideas, methods, theories, techniques and applications for enabling sustainable computing for clouds. The objective of this issue is to showcase the most recent developments and research in cloud and network computing fields, as well as to enhance their state-of-the-art.

Original and research articles of all types are solicited, including theoretical studies, practical applications, new communication technologies and experimental prototypes. Articles will be peer reviewed and selected on the basis of both their quality and their relevance to the theme of this special issue.

The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at IEEE CloudCom 2013, but we also strongly encourage researchers unable to participate in the conference to submit articles for this call.

Notes for Prospective Authors

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
