Risk analysis and analytics methods and techniques have rapidly evolved over recent years. One factor that explains this development is the outstanding and continuous improvement in software and computing power, which facilitates the use of hybrid algorithms combining risk/reliability principles with modern optimisation and simulation frameworks. Another factor is the increasing use of problem solving approaches that benefit from the so-called ‘big data’ phenomenon.

However, despite these significant advances in this scientific arena, there seems to be an important gap between theory and practice; most industrial sectors (including engineering, economics and finance and healthcare) are only just starting to employ the full potential of state-of-the-art scientific advances in risk analysis and analytics.

This special issue aims at presenting a set of selected articles which describe, mostly in case study style, how risk analysis and analytics methods and techniques have been successfully applied in realistic scenarios. In this regard, submitted articles should describe in detail how risk analysis and analytics methods and techniques were selected and adapted to the particular problem at hand, what challenges needed to be addressed, and how the application of these methods and techniques has contributed to advancements in the engineering, finance or healthcare fields.

Subject Coverage
Suitable topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Risk analysis
  • Analytics
  • Applications in engineering
  • Applications in economics and finance
  • Applications in healthcare
  • Case studies
