Image mining is an extended branch of data mining and is concerned with the process of knowledge discovery concerning images. Image mining deals with the extraction of image patterns from large collections of images.

Technological advances of the past decades have profoundly reshaped and enhanced all aspects of medical research and practice. Technology has continued to drive new medical advances in all areas.

This special issue will focus on cutting-edge medical IT research in topics such as data visualisation, brain interface, machine learning, segmentation and web mining.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely re-written and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
