Ecological and social and economic researches of the possible development of nuclear energy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria in real time

Abstract: The paper analyses economic, environmental and social problems that have a certain impact on the development of nuclear energy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The analysis examined the political structure of the country, demographic and religious characteristics of population of the regions, the ecology, the general state of the economy, agriculture and industry in Nigeria. Special attention was paid to the oil industry in Nigeria which provides OPEC membership for the country. The paper shows that for sustainable development of the economy, the country lacks energy capacities. To solve this problem, hydropower plants as well as thermal-power plants are being designed and the government has decided to commission two nuclear-power plants considering the country's population of 201 million people with continual rapid growth. However, both the construction of nuclear-power plants and their operations are hampered by military conflicts in Nigeria hence the need to take increased safety measures for the physical protection of both specialists involved in the construction of radiation-hazardous facilities and the facilities themselves.
