The necessity for a uniform organisation of User Memory in RFID

Abstract: As EPCglobal's Generation 2 Specification (Gen2 v1.0.9) was being readied for submission to International Organization of Standardization (ISO), little attention was paid those who might have needs beyond the meaningless, non-significant 96-bit electronic product code. This inattention was caused by several factors that are discussed in this paper. Consequently, the Gen2 specification sent to and ratified by ISO, while alluding to the availability of User Memory, made no accommodation for notifying the reader that User Memory existed nor did the specification provide for a means to reasonably access User Memory. The difficulty with this issue is considered.
