Abstract: Next generation wireless networks are heterogeneous in nature consisting of various radio access technologies (RATs). Hence vertical handover (VHO) becomes a necessity in order to achieve seamless mobility of the mobile users. This research paper presents design, implementation and analysis of the handover decision algorithm in heterogeneous wireless networks. The algorithm is based on Fuzzy Logic. The main parameters considered in designing of vertical handover decision algorithm (VHDA) are received signal strength (RSS), channel capacity, distance from base stations, velocity of the user and load on the network. The changes in the points of handover are observed on the basis of the variations in user trajectory and operating frequency of the base stations.
