Abstract: Lean product development (LPD) plays a major role in success of the organisation's product. Many researchers have proposed various LPD frameworks to implement LPD principles in the organisations without reviewing the existing LPD frameworks. Hence, this study performed a critical review of 35 frameworks with respect to novelty, background, and verification methodology used in the frameworks to identify the inconsistencies and standardise the elements. Several inconsistencies present in the existing LPD frameworks were identified and the importance of coherent theory building as well as development of coherent set of elements in the LPD was elucidated. To overcome these inconsistencies, a comprehensive conceptual LPD framework with high coherent elements was proposed.
