Abstract: Academicians cater to a professional group who probably experience musculoskeletal problems due to vivid reasons such as prolonged sitting and conducting research work, evaluation, lecture preparation, administrative tasks, spending long hours on computer/laptop, less physical activity, standing for hours taking lectures and continuous pressure of advancing in career. Although, there are various reasons for musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics plays a pivotal role in increasing/decreasing it, effecting there QWL. Hence, this study intends to investigate the above relationship empirically. Data was gathered from academicians working in higher education institutions (HEIs) of Uttarakhand, a northern province of India. Results reveal direct positive association between workplace ergonomics and QWL. Even in the presence of mediating variable (work-related musculoskeletal disorders), the direct effect was found significant which means mediating effect is partial in nature.
