Abstract: This paper presents the effectiveness of different stiffener patterns used in steel I-beams in deformation resistance. A total of seven patterns have been studied, the patterns are - vertical, both horizontal and vertical, N-type, M-type, X-type, double Y-type and, Y-type. The result was compared with respect to the conventional one (i.e., no stiffener). All the beams were modelled using SOLIDWORKS (2019-SP04) and analysed by ANSYS (19.2). The dimensions of the I-beam as well as the thickness of the plate were kept constant throughout the study. Among them X-type stiffener has shown least deformation. While the Y-type stiffener despite not showing the least deformation is rather more efficient as the amount of steel plates used less than the X-stiffener and is thus proposed as the most economical and efficient.
