Abstract: With a dire need to focus on the positive mental health of individuals (WHO 2013-2020), this research explores the effect of psychological empowerment in promoting the mental well-being of doctors through the mediating effect of organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB). The sample comprised 209 doctors from five leading private hospitals in the Southern part of India. Well-validated and tested questionnaires were used and the data were analysed through descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and regression analysis. The multiple regression analysis showed that psychological empowerment and OCB explained 17% and 29% of variance on life satisfaction among doctors. OCB acted as a full mediator between psychological empowerment and life satisfaction. The study results reveal that psychologically empowering doctors can spur behaviours to go beyond the call of duty, which in turn lead to more attention and quality care to patients. The doctors gain the feeling of fulfilment of accomplishing a quality output leading them to feel highly satisfied with their life. To the knowledge of researcher, this is one among a very few studies that has tried to understand the contributing factors of life satisfaction among doctors at Indian hospitals as the sample.
