Abstract: Although many indoor technologies with different methodologies and improvements have been proposed, indoor localisation is still a challenging work. Among all existing technologies the most promising one is ultra-wideband (UWB) technology because it is the only one that combines the benefits of accuracy, speed, safety and cost-efficiency. For a noise-free environment, mathematical technique of trilateration is best for position assessment. But in general, all the circles in trilateration method don't intersect at a single point as the number of reference points increases. So in this paper, we present the linear and non-linear algorithms which consider time of arrival (TOA) values for positioning using UWB. First the model for signal measurement and principles of positioning is explained, next the non-linear and linear methods to calculate the target location, such as NLS, ML, LLS and WLLS are given. Performance of algorithms is compared using MSE and CRLB.
