Abstract: Joint venture (JV) projects stakeholders rely on auditing at various stages to provide assurance on the performance of projects (Oakes andYoung, 2008). However, there is limited research on the importance of auditing to the success of these JVs. This study explored the key roles of auditing in oil and gas JV projects, the stages of the JV lifecycle where auditing is important and their relative importance, the impact of auditing on JV projects and the challenges of auditing JV projects. The study found among others that auditing is not just important but also a critical success factor to oil and gas JV projects.
