Abstract: This paper proposes an adaptive multi-population artificial bee colony (called AMPABC) algorithm for wireless sensor network coverage. Firstly, the whole swarm is divided into three distinct groups in terms of the function values of solutions. Then, two improved search strategies are designed by employing a random neighbourhood structure. To replace the probability selection mechanism, the best solution in the pre-defined neighbourhood is selected in the onlooker bee stage. Finally, the proposed AMPABC is applied to optimise wireless sensor network coverage. Simulation experiment demonstrates that AMPABC can obtain promising results.
