Abstract: The basic objective of this research paper is to comparatively analyse the prevalence of tacit knowledge in public and private sector knowledge organisations, as well as their differentiation among power sector, IT sector, and other infrastructure sector knowledge organisations and gender differentiation, through a random sample of 204 knowledge workers from six knowledge organisations. Tacit knowledge has been measured through the questionnaire given by Maier and Moseley (2003). There is a significant sectoral difference regarding tacit knowledge in the public and private sector knowledge organisations and the private sector knowledge organisations have more tacit knowledge than the public sector knowledge organisations. Apart from that, tacit knowledge in the IT sector organisations is significantly better than the power sector organisation. However, the power sector organisation shows similar traits like other infrastructure sector organisations in the area of tacit knowledge. There is a significant gender difference regarding tacit knowledge. The female knowledge workers perceive that there is significantly more tacit knowledge in their organisations than what the male knowledge workers perceive.
