Abstract: Changes in population size and age structure have serious economic, social and geopolitical consequences for the entire world. In this study, we analyse the current demographic situation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The issues of changes in the population dynamics in recent years in the light of the demographic transition theory are considered. The paper presents demographic data of the country's economic zones according to the latest national censuses of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The influences of the economic development level, youth migration, and the policies carried out by the government are analysed. This analysis aims to effectively identify the gaps and needs in the country's demographic policy development. The study of the considered issues will assist in implementing operational, tactical, and strategic decisions. As a result, it will be possible to prevent the emergence of the main challenges facing the government.
