Abstract: To address the problem of poor real-time performance in the application of Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) transmission in distribution networks, the study proposes a GOOSE on TCP message transmission scheme and factors that affect the real-time performance of the transmission, such as the number of nodes, the indebtedness of the network and the size of the message. Three improvement measures are specified, namely, increasing the priority of GOOSE messages, shutting down the TCP protocol using the Negal algorithm and maintaining the TCP communication link. The maximum value of the transmission delay is about 1.3 ms, the variance of the delay distribution is small. All three real-time improvement strategies can reduce the transmission delay maximum, mean and variance in both harsh and normal network environments, resulting in a more concentrated delay distribution and weaker delay jitter.
