Abstract: In intelligent transportation systems and railway signalling systems, considering that wireless sensor networks are used to estimate the speed and position of trains, due to the error and inaccuracy of their measurements, providing a suitable method has attracted the attention of researchers. The main goal of this paper is to provide a sensor calibration methodology to achieve accurate values of speed and position. According to the target position and speed profile, wireless sensor networks with 2 * (2oo2) redundancy (using 1 Hz and 7 Hz GPS speed sensors) and balises were considered. The position and speed were calibrated using balises and the proposed wireless sensor networks (using Kalman-consensus filter). The obtained results indicated that by using the proposed method, as well as reducing the time of train movement and operating headway, the errors of estimating the position and speed of trains were minimised and also, correct coupling and integrity of train axles were determined.
