Abstract: This study proposes the Zairi Benchmarking Model (ZBM) approach to improve the design process in a local design engineering organisation in the Middle East. The ZBM is adopted in a meaningful, practical, insightful and balanced way. The study shows a wide application and how engineering organisations can achieve competitive advantages, efficient decision making and problem-solving capabilities, using the model. The paper concludes that the ZBM may be created by the design team and may be used as a template for engineering design development training.
