Abstract: A systematic design of experiment study based on CCRD method on green sand mould prepared from Allahabad sand with calcium bentonite clay has been reported. Statistical models and response surfaces correlate Bulk Density (BD), compactability, permeability and compression strength to the set of inputs of percentage of bentonite and water, curing time, and the immediate environment of the specimen preparation. This paper shows how statistical analyses can help modern foundries to build mathematical relationships and to control the input raw materials to achieve the desired mould properties. Physical mechanisms of bond developments in green sand moulds are also described.
