Afghan women entrepreneurs: at the crossroads between globalisation and local traditions

Abstract: The rise and public presence of Afghan women entrepreneurs over the last five years is a new social and economic development for the country. The purpose of this paper is briefly to examine the process by which Afghan women entrepreneurs have emerged with support from the international community, blending the Western 'inputs' received with local traditions. Following a worldwide trend, they enter the business realm, traditionally male dominated in most countries, and participate visibly in the economy of their country.
