Abstract: Industrial robots are now widely used in Japan in many industries. This paper looks at the extent to which they have been accepted, and in particular their social and economic impacts. Effects on productivity, industrial relations, employment patterns and return on capital investment are surveyed. (This paper was presented at the International Products Forum, SITEV, in Geneva, June 1985.)
