Abstract: A self-tuning predictive control strategy for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive with dead time is proposed. Firstly, a dead time compensator (DTC), based on the Smith predictor (SP) and a self-tuning (ST) proportional-integral (PI) model following controller (MFC) is proposed. Then the model-following error is used to adaptively update the gains of the MFC via the affine projection algorithm (APA). The control strategy is very simple and easy to be implemented on digital signal processor (DSP). The validity and usefulness of the proposed control scheme are verified through experimental results.
