International Journal of Nanomanufacturing (IJNM), Vol. 4, No. 1/2/3/4, 2009

Abstract: Recent developments in nanotechnology have created exciting possibilities for more efficient conversion of solar radiation into electricity. The new devices based on nano-sized particles are expected not only to have higher conversion efficiencies compared to more conventional solar cells, but are also likely to bring down the costs which will make them competitive with electricity generated from fossil fuels. This presentation introduces some of these devices and issues related to their development. Potential areas of applications in Saudi Arabia are outlined. Saudi Arabia with a year round sunny climate is ideally suited for large scale exploitation of this abundant natural resource.
