Abstract: With the ethnic and cultural diversification of college students, quantitative reasoning aptitude remains as one of the fundamental capabilities that the students should acquire. This article presents a new method for assessing the improvement of college students in quantitative aptitude. The assessment test consists of randomly selected SAT questions. The test scores are compared with the SAT scores of participating students for statistically assessing students' progress in quantitative capabilities. The new approach does not require a pre-test. It is flexible, convenient to implement and statistically valid. It can also be used for continuous assessment of a college curriculum if the assessment test is given annually. This article also presents a pilot implementation study. The results show that material advantages may be derived from using this approach in assessing students' improvements in the quantitative aptitude.
