Abstract: Three-dimensional numerical calculations were carried out to clarify the effect of magnetizing force. A cusp-shaped magnetic field generated by four coils was applied to air (Pr = 0.71) in a cube that was placed in the centre of the surrounding four coils. The cube is heated from the top wall and cooled from the bottom wall both isothermally, and four vertical walls were thermally insulated. In conditions without a magnetic field, thermal conductive states are achieved with and without gravity fields. When a strong magnetic field is applied, convection is induced as the magnetizing force increases.
