by Arunoday Saha
International Journal of Materials and Product Technology (IJMPT), Vol. 5, No. 2, 1990

Abstract: This paper describes a study of productivity conducted at a large public sector steel plant in India. Labour productivity is determined for the entire plant as well as for the individual departments. The causes of low productivity are examined. The paper further discusses the technical factors affecting blast furnace performance. Productivity of open hearth furnaces and utilization of rolling mills are also ascertained. Finally the multi-factor productivity measurement model (MFPMM) is applied to the plant as a whole and conclusions are derived from its analysis.
