Abstract: Based on the theories of digital conjugated surface and gear meshing, a new slotting method for 2D Digital Gear Tooth Surfaces (DGTS) is developed. With this method, both the continuous surface model and the fitting to the discrete points are no more required; the conjugating motion between the DGTS and the slotting cutter figuration are directly investigated. The corresponding conjugate points and conjugate movements can be determined. Discrete movements are changed into continuous generating motions and continuous slotting of DGTS can be realised. Both the simulation and experimental results on an involute 2D non-standard shaped DGTS verify the presented method.
