Abstract: Pump, valve and actuator hydraulic system is a common hydraulic system that is widely used in many heavy types of equipment. In this paper, a new robust control strategy for a variable displacement pump hydraulic system is presented. The proposed control strategy effectively compensates for different system uncertainties and un-modelled dynamics, such as leakage resulting from wear, aging and temperature change. This ensures a continuous and consistent system performance under different operating conditions. The presented control strategy relies on a novel concept that uses the system standby pressure as an estimator for system leakage during normal operating conditions. A complete non-linear model for a generic hydraulic system is presented. Simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.
