Abstract: X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques can be successfully used for real-time investigations of basic mechanisms governing casting processes. Methods for analysing diffraction patterns from mono- and poly-atomic melts are presented and some experimental problems for monitoring dynamical processes are discussed. Examples illustrate the methods of analysis.
