International Journal of Sustainable Society (IJSSOC), Vol. 5, No. 2, 2013

Abstract: This paper examines current trends in technology and innovation management strategies that may be subjecting firms and nations to risk in terms of achieving long-term domestic and global sustainability. A new model is proposed that provides guidelines with respect to the proper allocation of domestic resources across multiple technology/industry domains, and presents advanced decision-making tools and operations management strategic concerns that should be addressed. Although this new model is explained with references as applied to the USA's current business environment, the general theoretical model concepts may be used to help identify how any country can limit its foreign dependence and identify both technology research and development areas that will provide the country with sustainable core competencies in the global economy and marketplace, and the operational structures needed to effectively achieve these goals.
