Fuel air ratio control of spark ignition engine using delayed feedback approach

Abstract: A fuel air ratio (FAR) control technique using delayed feedback strategy is proposed in this paper. The key of this work is to handle the parameter variations and uncertainties as well as time delay caused by dynamics of combustion, exhaust mixing and oxygen sensor aging. For controller design purposes, we firstly discuss the control-oriented FAR model including air flow, fuel path, exhaust system and oxygen sensor dynamics. Then, a delayed feedback control strategy with linear parameter varying (LPV), bounded parameter uncertainties and time delay is demonstrated. Through the use of non-convex matrix inequality and LMIs technique, the controller gain matrix is obtained. The developed controller can be able to guarantee the robust stability of the FAR control system. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through simulation of an inline four-cylinder spark ignition engine from software tool enDYNA. The simulation result shows that the improvement of performance of reference tracking and disturbance rejection can be obtained from the developed FAR controller.
