Abstract: A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a finest combination of mostly non-overlapping groups of physically closed nodes. This type of network can be used as an important building block for the design of efficient application layer network functions such as, clustering, routing, data aggregation, and query processing. To achieve a stable and energy-efficient network, clustering is one of the best approaches, which also prolongs the life of the network. A cluster is needed to adapt the changes that are useful for efficient management and scalability of the network. In dynamic clustering the time is divided into rounds and at the beginning of each round, the clustering is performed. This paper presents a distributed dynamic clustering protocol (DDCP) for heterogeneous wireless sensor network, which not only minimises of the number of clusters but also increases the network lifetime. To show the superiority of the proposed DDCP, simulation has been carried out and results are compared with low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH), distributed energy efficient clustering (DEEC) and energy efficient clustering scheme (EECS).
