Abstract: Silver nanoparticles were fabricated by reducing silver nitrate by ethylene glycol. The optical absorption spectra of silver nanoparticles in water showed a peak about 430 nm. The presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a capping agent in the solution led to the preferential addition of silver atoms to some facets and hence shape transformation of nanoparticles. By spending the time, nanoparticles were transformed to triangular nanoprisms. Hence, three merged peaks were observed at 358, 381 and 436 nm in absorption spectra. Discrete dipole approximation (DDA) were used to explain optical absorption spectra of nanoprisms. Our calculation results showed good agreement with experimental data.
