Abstract: The study measures the determinants and dimensions of productivity and innovations using panel data of different industrial groups at micro level for manufacturing sector of one of the developing states of Indian economy. The study is a novel attempt to apply Malmquist productivity index along with its components and also efforts have been made to identify some macroeconomic and infrastructural factors and their association with the level of productivity. The study is more likely to be free from any type of distortions as the present attempt concentrates on industry level analysis which is enjoying various common features and constitutes a homogeneous sample due to their operations in similar economic environment and subject to same regulatory regime. Profitability-productivity association confirms huge potential for selected categories. The study indicates that there is not only need to strengthen the level of innovations and optimum utilisation of resources but also critical obligation to balance and harmonise both aspects.
