Abstract: Pipe systems transfer gas or liquid to make the mechanical system work properly. In order to assess the pipe system routing design, an Answer Set Programming (ASP)-based pipe routing assessment and diagnosis approach is introduced. Initially, some typical pipe routing knowledge is summarised to build the framework of the knowledge database. Based on the mentioned knowledge database, designers can customise their own knowledge database to meet their own needs. After the database is defined, the ASP solver uses the pre-defined knowledge to assess the pipe routing design. According to the analysis of the assessment, some prompts which can improve the design are generated to guide the designers to modify their work. A system prototype is introduced at the end of the paper to illustrate the new approach.
