Abstract: One of the key issues in developing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems deals with the customisation of master data elements aligned with particular business strategies and goals since any changes in strategies require further modifications in data elements. However, regarding to the significant importance of this concept in successfully implementing ERP systems, only few researches have addressed this matter. Therefore, this paper firstly aims to show how master data could be overshadowed by different business goals and afterward a new method with the purpose of customising master data based on a set of business goals is introduced. For illustration, a bank datasets including 17 data elements have been applied in order to identify and select the most informative elements which are apt to an especial business goal such as increasing profit or decreasing bad debts. Considering the proposed method and obtained result indicates that a relationship between master data elements and business goals can be employed to identify the most informative data elements and finally customisation of master data elements.
