Abstract: This paper presents results from an explorative study where we developed an exploratory, empirically-based model of evolution of product development capabilities within a firm. Results achieved concretise the cumulative nature of development capability and its progress from non-financial performance towards financial measures. Methodological approach used in this analysis can be replicated and utilised in future studies. By following the systematic analysis approach for benefit measurement this kind of subjective performance evaluation can be used as a method for NPD process improvement.
