Abstract: This work is concerned with the design optimisation of brake pedal linkage. An existing model of brake pedal linkage was analysed through finite element analysis module of ANSYS. The target outcomes were observed under defined loading and boundary conditions to provide a realistic analysis environment. The maximum deflection, von Mises stress, etc. were determined for maximum load through FEA. The maximum stress prone areas of the assembly as well as parts under high stress were concentrated. To optimise existing model, the stress free volume of the material from the linkage assembly has been targeted. The CAD model of the new design of linkage is modelled using CATIA features. Keeping in view the design concepts of mechanical components this stress free volume of the material has been removed to make it light weight without compromising with the strength of linkage. The optimised model has been analysed through ANSYS again to observe its outcomes. The prime objective of this work is material saving and related material cost minimisation.
