Abstract: The challenge of making business ventures viable and profitable in new frontiers is huge, especially in agriculture. The first difficulties concern the longer distance, resulting in higher transportation costs and need for larger stocks. This study focuses on efforts in the ethanol production and the search for this competitiveness, achieved through logistics. This paper contributes as it reveals the most important among the various logistic activities in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. It also shows that factors such as high technology and use of modern equipment allow for good competitiveness with traditional producing regions.
