Title: Emergency at a cattle ranch: a teaching case study focusing on leadership frames of the management during disaster response at Babcock Ranch

Abstract: Leadership is a complex concept and should be discussed from multiple frames. The objective is to exercise the use of leadership frames in management decision making in an agribusiness organisation. We developed a case study by interviewing the leadership of a cattle ranch about their disaster response and future plans of preparedness. The cattle ranch was affected by hurricane Irma and incurred destruction on the farm. We also evaluate disaster response adopted by the farm and use this as exercise for students to prepare their own disaster management plan. The efforts made by the leadership are discussed considering multiple leadership frames. This case study teaches different aspects of decision making by the organisational leadership considering specific frames of importance during crisis management.
