Abstract: Environmental pollution is a major problem in today's society and one of the sectors that contribute highly to pollution is the transport sector. The transport sector contributes significantly to the development of society and the economy. However, it can also negatively affect human health and the natural environment. Currently, vehicles that consume fossil energy remain in majority, and it is necessary to know what the actual purchase expectations are. That is why this work analyses the intention to purchase electric vehicles by private individuals, as well as the factors that positively and negatively influence this decision. For this purpose, primary data was collected via a survey conducted in Spain (n = 463). The main results obtained show that there are still more negative aspects than positive ones when deciding to purchase an electric car. The main barriers to purchase include the high price, the low range, the scarcity of charging stations or the absence of specialised workshops.
