Abstract: The pandemic has resulted in the closure and failure of many tourism companies, changed the relationship of tourism with sustainability and had devastating effects on tourism. Therefore, the purpose of this document is to explore the evolution of resilience and sustainability studies in the tourism sector by including the COVID-19 variable in the analysis. To answer the research questions, the authors conducted a systematic review of the literature using 171 research papers published in international journals in recent years as input data. The qualitative analysis of the evaluation of our work was supplemented by quantitative analysis conducted using statistical criteria and bibliometric indicators. The results show how this challenge can be considered as an opportunity to reform the economic and social systems by offering tourism the opportunity to relaunch itself in a sustainable way by freeing itself from environmental degradation and aggravated global climatic conditions. The contribution of this study to the existing research is that it clarifies the evolutionary development of COVID-19 research and its link with environmental and sustainable factors.
