Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system used primarily for communication where various devices are connected for the collection, analysis, and execution of the task required. The main challenge with an IoT device is that they are resource-constrained. Hence, the usage of an effective data transmission routing protocol plays a vital role in the IoT. It is identified from the research that IPv6 routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks (RPL) is an effective routing protocol for a static IoT network. While RPL is studied extensively on a static network, it is also necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the RPL for different mobility models. The energy consumption of the reference point mobility model (RPGM) is compared in this paper with the column mobility model (CMM) for RPL at distinct concentrations of scalability using the Cooja simulator with Contiki operating system. The extensive experimental analysis shows that the CMM is more energy-efficient than the RPGM mobility model.
