Abstract: As one of the most serious disasters in the coal mines, coal and gas outburst seriously threatens the safety of workers and the efficiency of mining. To clarify the correlation between these studies and grasp the progress of coal and gas outburst research, this paper collected 3,431 papers from the Web of Science and Core Journal of China. It is found that the research on coal and gas outburst is generally on the rise, and the vast majority of active scientific research institutions and researchers are from China, and Australia has the closest academic exchanges with China. By summarising and analysing the high-frequency keywords, the existing papers can be divided into three categories: outburst mechanism, outburst prediction and outburst prevention. With the rapid development of technology, the current research on coal and gas outburst is tending to be quantitative and microscopic through the analysis of related keywords. The highlights of the study are the research status of coal and gas outburst is presented by the bibliometrics method, the current development status, research hotspots, and future research trends were summarised and the outburst mechanism, outburst prediction, and outburst prevention of coal and gas outburst were discussed in detail.
